Effect of Boron Carbide Addition on Wear Resistance of Aluminum Matrix Composites Fabricated by Stir Casting and Hot Rolling Processes

In this study, to evaluate the effect of boron carbide (B4C) addition on wear performance aluminum (Al), Al6061 and 5, 10, 20 vol.% B4C/Al6061 composites were manufactured using stir casting hot rolling processes. B4C particles randomly dispersed during process; then, arranged in direction a process further improve dispersion resistance composites. Furthermore, continuous interfacial layer between matrix was generated by diffusion titanium (Ti) chromium (Cr) atoms contained alloy. Wear depth width decreased with increasing content. addition, coefficient friction (COF) improved as compared that Al6061. The results indicate interface-controlled, well-aligned can effectively increase properties Al alloys their hardness.
